In Colossians chapter two, the Apostle Paul says that Christ DISARMED the powers and authorities by TRIUMPHING over them by the cross. There is an old hymn that says it well. The words may be archaic, but the message is right on target for TODAY. Read the words with me.
Bane and blessing, pain and pleasure,
by the cross are sanctified.
Peace is there that knows no measure,
joys that through all time abide.
YES! It is true that the EMPTY CROSS and the RISEN CHRIST are our ONLY hope for this life and eternity. The powers of sin and death are defeated and we are HOME FREE!
I love this truth and hope that you also will find it encouraging today.

So many times I am aware of my lack of mercy when working with people
who I think don’t measure up to what I think is right. It is easy to be impatient
and critical with friends, colleagues and family. Actually impatience and a critical spirit
are signs that we are pretty self-centered in our thinking and living. Jesus
deals with this problem in Matthew 18:33 in his discourse on forgiveness.
Here is what he says: “Shouldn’t you have mercy on your fellow servant, just
AS I HAD MERCY on you?” It’s a NO BRAINER! Sometimes we act like we
are greater and wiser than God!
Pray this prayer with me today: Help me Lord to have a heart like yours that
is filled with love and mercy.

I have been reading the teachings of Jesus in Matthew chapter 6 and
have been challenged as I begin this new year.
Jesus equates WORRY with a lack of FAITH. It is evident that when
our faith is small that we don’t know Jesus very well and we worry
about everything. I see how essential it is for me to grow closer
and closer to Him — The closer I get to Him — the better I know
Him and the more I will TRUST HIM.
Jesus tells us that “Your heavenly Father ALREADY knows all your
needs, AND He will give you ALL you need from day to day.” IF HE IS
FIRST IN MY LIFE! v32-33.
SO WHY WORRY? Just get close to Jesus
